What was an amount of money from a past year actually worth? This uses the official ONS Consumer Prices Index (CPI), not a rule of thumb.
Source: ONS series D7BT, "CPI INDEX 00: ALL ITEMS 2015=100" (dataset MM23), annual averages, released 22 July 2026. 2025 is the latest complete calendar year — the current year's average isn't final until ONS publishes it, so it isn't included here. CPI measures average UK consumer prices; it won't match any one person's actual spending exactly, especially for housing costs (CPI excludes owner-occupier housing costs — RPI or CPIH are closer for that).
